Description

Straight, sharp, curved, sloped.
Can ‘bold’ be feminine, and ‘curly’ be masculine? Are shapes associated with gender? What does it mean for a designer/artist to navigate these harmful stereotypes? This work was made as part of a visual research of these questions. As two female designers we often are confused and frustrated by hearing feedback such as: ‘design met ballen’ (more masculine) ‘iets meer vrouwelijke vormen’ (more feminine). To us, they can both mean the same thing. Is our work feminine or masculine? Or both?
